So far i love this cooler. I picked this brand over the mythical snow monster brand mainly for 2 reasons. First, its a good deal cheaper than a model of comparable size from the other, and second, for the button latches. I dont really like the other style with those rubber T shaped latches, just my personal pref. Did my pelican come with the infamous gasket gap…. yes, it did. Did it shatter my reality, no. It took all of 10 seconds to pull up the last 3 inches of one side of the gasket, pull it a little forward towards the other side, and push it back down into the channel it sits in. Very simple fix. If you are put off on the idea of purchasing this cooler due to the numerous reports/complaints about the gasket, i would not let that be the deciding factor as to why you would not consider this brand. Should it come perfect, that would be nice, but mine and many others haven’t. The handle is also very nice to grip, its a bit of a squishy or soft rubber that feels better than hard plastic. The cooler is on the heavy side empty, but most are that have such thick insulation and are well made. I got the gray with the green interior, love the bright color on the inside. Easy to see what you are digging through. If i end up having problems with this item down the road, i will update this with those problems. For now, i would buy this again if needed, and would consider buying some of the larger models in the future.

This is a well-built cooler priced a little less than other high-end coolers in its class. More importantly, from my perspective, it is the only 20 Quart cooler I found with this type of construction that will comfortably accommodate wine and champagne bottles standing full upright. The Amazon description says 3 wine bottles. That’s an understatement. It will easily handle 4 champagne bottles (which tend to be slightly fatter than other types of wine bottles) and possibly 5. The outside footprint is larger than I expected. There was nothing in the photo for scale and, of course, I didn’t bother to mock-up a footprint from measurements conveniently provided in the description. This is the first really upscale cooler I’ve owned and I underestimated the thickness of the walls. Kind of amazingly, the day after the cooler arrived my neighborhood experienced a 7 hour power outage. I tossed a few critical freezer items into the cooler with just two blue ice packs. Seven hours later there was no sign of thawing of either the ice packs or any other freezer item. I purchased this cooler specifically for camping in Death Valley. I’ll report back after my next trip but, based on its construction and also my little power outage experiment, I have a lot of confidence that this cooler will keep my food and beverages cold for at least the three or four days I plan to be there.

My husband doesn’t have access to a fridge at work, and regular lunch boxes (& even the freezable ones) haven’t kept his food cold enough to be edible by the middle of his shift, so I bought him the 20qt. cooler.. and it’s great! I wish it was available in a smaller size, though. I didn’t realize just how enormous this thing is- the photos provided in the listing make it seem smaller to me. Hopefully, the photo I provided helps you get a better idea of the size. Still, this cooler works! It’s just a lot for him to lug around everyday to and from work.

When I opened the package I noticed the cooler was covered in a white dust from the factory, it came off with a little water no big deal. They could have used a better gasket for the 200$ price point. As other reviewers have stated, mine came with a 1/8″ gap. Also, all 4 corners of the gasket were seperating when I received it. Not sure if it’s supposed to be like that or not. Even with the gap my cooler was able to hold ice for the advertised 3 days. It has a simple clip/latch design that should hold up to some abuse. The 4 tie down holes and the contoured side are a nice touch. The ‘Pelican’ emblems on the cooler are just glorified stickers. As you can see in the photos, the hinges arent lined up perfectly, but they’re smooth and quiet.
I searched high and low for dimensions on this cooler and could only find vague measurements on their website. Ended up having to call Pelican themselves and it took me 45 minutes until someone could tell me what I needed to know. So if anybody is curious the outside bottom of the cooler is 13.5 x 9 inches
Originally purchased for 195.00 and it went on sale a week later for 139.99. Amazon refused to price match the sale, so I had to send my cooler back, get a refund, and then buy the same exact cooler that was on sale. If Amazon wants to waste company money on shipping, and receiving back used items – so be it.
For 139.99 it’s a great cooler that should last many years.
4 Stars for the Pelican Elite 20qt cooler
3 Stars for Amazons policies

Why I love this cooler after 2 months of use:
1. It is put together like a German car. Solid all over with that unique thump that tells you it’s closed tight.
2. It keeps things cold for days. Even after the ice melts (after 2 days locked in a very hot car in the middle of the summer in the south) the remaining ice/water keeps drinks icy cold for another 3 days. As a matter of fact I’ve never had anything in it that wasn’t still very cold when it came out.
3. Cup holders!
4. It makes a stable seat that doesn’t flex at all, even for a 250 lb man. The height is perfect for it, almost like it was designed for this purpose.
5. The side opposite the hinges has a curved cutout so it fits comfortably against your leg. You don’t get beaten by a straight side.
I considered buying a much more expensive cooler but I’m so glad I didn’t.
